Connecting a Shopify store
Step-by-step guide to connecting your Shopify store to SimpledAId and adding the chat widget to your theme.
Connecting a Shopify store to SimpledAId takes a few minutes and does not require a developer. There are two stages: letting the bot read your store, and adding the chat widget to your theme. If you are new here, start with what SimpledAId is. Running WooCommerce instead? See connecting a WooCommerce store.
Stage 1: let SimpledAId read your store
- On the SimpledAId homepage, paste your Shopify store URL, for example
https://yourbrand.myshopify.comor your custom domain. - Enter your email so we can send you your bot.
- SimpledAId crawls your public storefront: products, collections, delivery and returns pages and any policies it can find. This builds the knowledge base the bot answers from.
Because the initial crawl reads your public storefront, you do not need to install anything yet to start chatting with your bot and checking the quality of its answers.
Stage 2: add the chat widget to your theme
When you are happy with the bot, add the widget so customers can use it:
- In your SimpledAId dashboard, copy your widget snippet.
- In Shopify, go to Online Store, then Themes, then Edit code on your live theme.
- Open
theme.liquidand paste the snippet just before the closing</body>tag. - Save. The chat widget now appears across your storefront.
If you prefer not to touch theme code, you can paste the snippet into a custom Liquid section instead, though placing it in theme.liquid ensures it loads on every page.
Keeping the bot up to date
When you add new products or change your delivery and returns policies, SimpledAId re-reads your storefront so the bot stays accurate. You do not need to re-paste anything. If you make a large change and want it reflected straight away, you can trigger a refresh from the dashboard.
Troubleshooting
- The bot is missing a product. Make sure the product page is published and publicly visible, then refresh the crawl from the dashboard.
- The widget is not showing. Confirm the snippet sits before
</body>and that you saved the live theme rather than a draft. - Answers feel off-brand. Adjust the tone in your dashboard, and add or correct the relevant help article so the knowledge base reflects how you want things phrased.
